About Time For A New Post…

Don’t ya think?

Sorry for my absence. I’ve barely had the time to sit down and read my blog roll, let alone post. I’ve been missing it terribly though. Why so busy? Mainly just work. I come home late most nights and even if I don’t, I’m just so drained that I can’t force myself to sit down and write a post.

It isn’t because there hasn’t been something to write though. Monday was a pretty memorable day for me. Every Monday, my husband and I meet for lunch. Most people hate Monday’s, but I love them because it is the one day of the week that his handsome face brightens my work day.

This lunch was a little more eventful than most. We met at Perkins because they have some darn good salads! I was there and seated and he arrived shortly thereafter. I could tell from the moment I saw him that there was something on his mind. He sat down and I paused only for a moment before asking him what was up. I won’t recount the entire conversation but the gist is this…

We’ve been trying off and on to get pregnant for almost 2 year. We’ve only seriously been trying for a couple months (BBT charting). Throughout this time we’ve discussed our other options. I don’t want to go through unnatural measures. I don’t want to mess with God’s plan. Nor do we have the financial indulgence to put our money into chemical treatments, implanting, etc. and have it fail. So, we’ve basically decided that adoption would be the route for us if we can’t do it on our own. Which is fine for me. I’ve always wanted to adopt. I’d always hoped to give birth to one child and a few years later adopt an older child.

A year ago, my husband left his day job and took a night job for considerably less money. The reason was because a) he hated his day job and b) we intended to work opposite shifts when we had a child so we just got started with that a little early. He has decided that he is going to get a day job (in addition to his night job) so we can start saving for what is a very expensive adoption process in the US. As he teared up (with joy not sorrow) he said that he believes that God intends us to be parents, but our child may already be out there, just waiting to be picked up.

My emotions are so mixed. I’ve always wanted to adopt. It is almost like I have a gut feeling that this is the way it is supposed to be. We have so much love in this house. There is so much love for us to share. Mike learned how to do everything right from his parents. I learned “what not to do” from my parents. Together we will make wonderful parents, I just know it in my heart. So this makes sense. There are so many children out there that need a loving home. They need what we can provide. I’m excited to start looking into the process and to start saving.

The downside is that I feel broken. I know it isn’t rational, but I just can’t help it. I feel like I’ve failed. I detest my body for not allowing me to feel a baby inside me. I’m sure the disappointment will be behind me soon, but right now, if I could kick the tires on this jalopy, I would.

2) CodeGrrl.Com
Delightfully informative sight to bloggers everywhere. She provides a bundle of scripts and tutuorials. Seriously, if you want to know darn near anything about “tweeking your site” you should stop here first.

The buck stops there since CodeGrrl.com is an informative site and didn’t have a blogroll.

Happy Admin. Assistants Day To Me!

As you know, I’ve been feeling pretty blue about my job lately. Well a couple people that I work with went above and beyond and it really helped. As some of you may know, Wednesday was Admin. Assistants Day. Some of you may also know that I’m an Executive Admin. Assistant. I’ve got to be honest. When I didn’t get anything on Wednesday, I didn’t think anything of it. I’ve got a new boss who’s basically been thown into a shark tank. I didn’t think my other boss would remember. I support a few other folks, but not enough to warrant anything special.

But alas, I walked in this morning to a flat full of flowers, some garden decorations and a card signed by all bosses with $50 inside. I’ve had a rough week and I’ve been very down trodden and struggling with my job. I must admit…although it might be temporary….my happiness CAN be bought.

Guess what I did tonight??? I planted 8 perennials, 3 garden decorations and I have one adorable annual yet to be planted. I’ve never received a more thoughtful gift for Admin Day. While it came from everyone, I know that two people were the masterminds. I’m so grateful that I work with them.

Veronica Guerin – 1 fl0w3rs

My reviews won’t have as much content these days because I just don’t have the time, but I’ll try and give you the jist of my POV. Veronica Guerin (Cate Blanchett), a real-life reporter for Dublin’s Sunday Independent, delved into the world of drug lords in pursuit of a great story — but her zeal put her life in grave danger. It could have been an interesting, albeit tragic movie. My biggest issue was that it was so darned slow. I had to force myself, not completely successfully, to stay awake. I think Cate Blanchett probably did an excellent job, but it was hidden behind a boring movie.

Five Finger Discounts

Brought to you by

If you worked for a store and you saw another employee steal something, would you tell the manager?

Well, I’ve re-written my response a couple of times. My initial response was to say that I’d approach the employee and recommend that they return the item or I would turn them in. Then I thought, even if they were receptive, if they would steal something once, chances would be they would steal again. At second thought I would tell a manager. I really think that would be the best way to help everyone involved. There would be consequences for the employee and with any luck that might teach them a much needed lesson.

A song that make me very happy!

So, I put on my iPod and went out to do some gardening on Saturday. This song came on and I simply couldn’t prevent myself from dancing around the yard…

WHISTLING IN THE DARK
THEY MIGHT BE GIANTS – FLOOD 1990

?A woman came up to me and said
I?d like to poison your mind
With wrong ideas that appeal to you
Though I am not unkind
She looked at me, I looked at something
Written across her scalp
And these are the words that it faintly said
As I tried to call for help:

Noises Off!

Saturday, the hubby and I went out for a lovely night of sushi and theater with our friend over at deadbatteries.net. The sushi at Matsu Sushi was wonderful and our waiter was a delight, as always. My husband, who doesn’t eat sushi, had a delicous curry beef. Scott and I enjoyed a rainbow roll, dragon roll, philadelphia roll, crunchy roll, sake and egg custard. Then on to the show. We saw Noises Off at the Omaha Community Playhouse.

Brief synopsis: “This frantically funny farce within a farce takes you behind the scenes of a third rate acting troupe?s latest play. The ?show? performed by the actors is hilarious enough, but wait until you see what?s going on backstage! You?ll commiserate with the cast as actors stampede in and out of doors, voices rise and trousers fall. This show is a joyous reminder that the theatre really does go on–even when the show falls apart. This show provides comic delirium that rocks the house; the whole audience will be reduced to helpless hysteria. Pure fun!”

Brilliant! Absolutely brilliant! My hats off to this stellar cast. I can’t even imaging how difficult this play would have been to pull off. They moved non-stop as well as prattled off a very wordy script. This was the loudest audience I’ve ever heard at the playhouse with the exception of the sing-along-Sound-of-Music. The audience was rolling with laughter. The choreography behind this production was absolutely amazing. I’ve seen this movie, but didn’t remember it until the play started. I remember thinking the movie was funny, but I really think the theatrical effects are what make this production. It is easy to do this show when you have the luxury of re-shoots, special effects and stunt actors….

Props to the cast and the playhouse for a laughter-filled riot of a production! Thanks also to my husband and friend for a lovely evening.

Potpourri

Sunday Brunch:

1. Which television series do you think had the best final episode?
I’m not really sure. I haven’t caught many “final” episodes, but I will say that Seinfeld did it right. They called it quits while the show was still in it’s peak of popularity. Why wait until it’s been done into the ground?
2. Do you own something that you really should throw away but can’t part with?
Well, probably. I have a few keepsakes stowed away in various location. I think I’d have to go with a old flower corsage from the first Military Ball that I went to in high school. At this point, it doesn’t even resemble a flower, but I still have the crumbles of a flower in a baggie, in a storage container, in the basement.
3. Would you be willing to spend a night alone in a house that is supposedly haunted?
Heck yeah. That even sounds kind of fun.
4. Go back to your childhood … What did you want to be when you grew up?
A heart surgeon.
5. What do you need to make your favorite pizza?
Black olives, mushrooms, onions and oodles of cheese.
