Well, we understand why now, since the only thing that calms Gabe when he’s fussy is to walk around with him. We’ll even spend time on the treadmill just to calm him down. Now, we purchased a front loading baby carrier from a local department store. Gabe doesn’t mind it, but it is so hard to get him in and out of it. Plus, you can only use it in the front, which gets to be pretty hard on the back. So, we asked our Sister-in-Law to get us a Podaegi.

It is the simplest thing…basically just a long blanket with long belt-like straps. Yet with just that one device there are 4-5 different ways to tie a baby onto your body. It is so much easier than the fancy backback with all these straps and clips. I even think Gabe might like the Podaegi better. It will grow with him, where as he will soon be too big for the front pack. So simple yet so much better.

While discusssing the simplicity, Mike brought up the incident where we spent money and time designing a pen that could write in zero-gravity. Do you know how the Russians solved this problem? They used a pencil. You know, we have some amazing technology in this day and age, but perhaps we have a tendancy to overthink things.

Sunday Brunch

Dining out
“The murals in restaurants are on par with the food in museums.” -Peter DeVries

1) Do you enjoy eating out and why? I love eating out. I don’t like to cook and I like to be waited on.
2) Where is your favorite restaurant? It’s a tie, either Blue or Outback
3) What are your standards for tipping? Good service will get a 20% tip ever time. Crappy service will usually still get 10%. If there is major suckage, I have been known to leave $0.00.
4) Do you have one entree, appetizer or dessert that you specifically go out to get at a restaurant from time to time? Crab legs. I love crab legs.
5) Describe a horrific experience that you had while dining out. Well, there was one time that we were dining at Red Lobster and an elderly woman in the table behind us passed out and had a seizure. An ambulance showed up, but she ended up being alright. It was brought on by dialysis that she had earlier. It was very scary though.

I can remember hanging out with Jeff and Sherry (the cousins on my Dad’s side). I remember a lot of time spent in the back yard and alley behind my grandma’s house. The boys would go out and find snakes and bring them back and the girls would “snake sit”. We climbed on the roofs of the sheds even though we weren’t supposed to. We spent a great deal of time on a tire swing. In 6th grade, my first kiss took place in that alley. I also remember hanging out with Andy and Kimmy. We would slide down my grandparent’s stairs on our butts. We would play charades on the stair landing. I love all four of them very much. There is a special bond.

I realized that today, when I was so lucky to have lunch with Kimmy. (I told myself I wouldn’t call her Kimmy, but I couldn’t help it. She just isn’t Kim to me). We rarely see each other these days. When my grandparents died, our families just kind of fell apart. So, on very rare occasions, I might bump into one of my cousins. Yet today when I hung out with Kimmy, it was so nice to talk to her. I felt like we could have talked for hours. We are so different, yet we have so much in common. I really love her and I’m GOING to make sure that we don’t go so far between visits.

She gave us the coolest present for Gabe too. I was so impressed. She dressed up some cloth diapers with a heavy-weight, bright colored ribbon. The ribbon is sewn on both ends of the cloths and aside from being pretty, it acts as a weight to keep the cloth on your shoulder while burping. She also took two large, plush towels and sewed a washcloth on the towel to make a hood. They are so awesome and they will grow with him, since they aren’t just baby towels. OK, maybe it is my complete and total lack of creativity and skill but I was so very impressed. The gifts were so thoughtful. I can’t wait to use them.
