I wanna Ho Ho

 I stand here and sweat to this stupid tape and all I can think about is I wanna Ho Ho. Frozen Ho Ho. Wanna feel that choc crunch at I bite into it. Wanna lick the rapper when I’m done. But no. Right now I’m sweating my butt off trying to lose the 1500 OTHER Ho Ho’s I have consumed. Finally done with the tape and I feel like I’m havin a heart attack. I look over at her and she smiles and tells me how beautiful I am and how proud of me she is. Feels great. But not as great as taking off those soggy clothes and climbing into the shower knowing I just did something awesome for my body.

But I still wanna Ho Ho.

My Little Giant

I like to fill out these height prediction forms…Entering the latest info on Gabey gave me the following results:

Your boy will likely be 6 ft. 2 in. at age 18.

Young men often continue to grow a little past 18 until they reach 21, but their height at age 18 is very close to their final adult height. This prediction is a “best guess” but it’s still just that — a guess. Based on the formula we used* there is a 50 percent chance that your boy’s full-grown height will be within 0.8 inches (above or below) of this prediction, and a 90 percent chance that it will be within 2.1 inches.

This is a little better than the one I did last year that said he would be between 6′5″-6′10″.

Happy Mother’s Day To Me

Mother’s Day is a big reminder to me of exactly how blessed I am. I have a handsome, kind, loving and giving husband. I have two gorgeous children who bring me joy every day of my life. I am a wife. I am a Mother. I am blessed.

Friday I got a call from my husband that he and the kids wanted to take me to lunch. I was thrilled. There are few things I enjoy more than hearing from my hubby mid-day with an invitation to join him and the kids. I was greeted with a card from the kids. It was signed by Gabey inside and a cute, red, finger-paint, Evie hand print on the back. In the card was a sticker honoring me as a Mom. I wore it with pride the rest of the work day.

Given how tight money is these days due to our medical debt, I assumed that would be my gift and truly that was more than enough. I was so surprised to wake up this morning and find a card and gift from Mike. I read the card at a quarter to six this morning and I cried:

Unplanned Renovations

Things that can only happen to us…

So, a couple of weeks ago, on a Monday morning, I go through my usual routine. I got ready, got the kids fed and dressed and left for work. Now, you see, we live in an older home. Our garage is a detached garage off the alley. I’m almost certain it was an afterthought that was built many years after the house was built. I’m also pretty certain that it wasn’t built by professional contractors. The structure itself is just barely large enough to accommodate two vehicles. It is mainly built out of cinder block that are plastered together. The very top of the garage is wood with siding and shingles. There is no connection to the house and no external entry other than the garage door itself. The garage door is electric and we use a key pad to enter from the outside or the garage opener remotes.

So, I get to the garage door that Monday morning and I enter the code and it won’t open. I try it a couple times and still nothing. Perplexed, I go into the house and tell Mike that we might have a problem. He kept a remote opener in his coat, so I took that out and tried it that way…still nothing. So, I go back inside and call work. I have no way to get to our vehicles and consequently no way to get to work. I let them know that I’ll be late and I don’t know how long it will be. We call a garage door repair company and they basically say that if there isn’t an external key entry installed the only thing they will be able to do is cut a hole in the garage or remove the door. Oh, snap! So, rather than pay a company to destroy our garage, Mike grabs some power tools and heads out to do some damage himself.

About 30-45 minutes later…the hole:

THE HOLE

Basically, Mike had to cut a hole in the upper part of the garage that is wood and siding. Then he had to climb through and drop down into the garage, release the safety switch and open the garage. He found out that there is a switch on the open/close button inside the garage that locks the door closed. Somehow that switch got flipped, rendering it impossible to open the garage…unless of course, that external key entry had been installed and functional.

So, for about a week, we had this lovely plastic covered skylight in our garage:

Plastic Skylight? Plastic Skylight?

Now Mike has fashioned a door to cover our newly remodeled garage:

The door.

Like I said…it could only happen to us!
